OUR HUMBLE BEGINNINGS Ragan and Christi Bond, college sweethearts who graduated from Texas State University in 1987 with BBA degrees in Marketing, stumbled upon their coffee roasting passion almost by chance. After Ragan's 15-year stint as a commodities trader, the Bonds relocated their family to the small town of Brenham, Texas, where Christi and her sister opened a cozy coffee shop called Main Street Coffee & Trading/Independence Coffee Co. Ragan soon started roasting coffee in his garage for their shop, producing 1,800 lbs. in the first year on a 10 lb. Ambex roaster.

OUR GROWTH In 2018, the Bonds expanded their venture, opening a specialty coffee and tea retail destination in Brenham called Black Truck '48 Coffee & Tea Market, named after the 1948 Ford truck they used for coffee delivery. Their hard work and dedication paid off, as in 2019, Christi and Ragan were recognized as SBA Persons of the Year for Texas. That year, their growing team of 32 custom-crafted an impressive 700,000 lbs. of coffee. Continuing their momentum, Independence Coffee Co. is now replacing their single-serve cups with new coffee pods in 2020.

OUR COMMITMENT TO QUALITY At the heart of Independence Coffee Co. is a small-scale roastery, which the Bonds view as a distinct advantage. Their hands-on approach and commitment to freshness allow them to cater to both novice and seasoned coffee enthusiasts. Packages are sealed within hours of roasting, and distribution is meticulously timed to ensure customers receive the coffee at its peak.

THE INDEPENDENCE ROAST Independence Coffee Co. takes great pride in its roasting process, with three dedicated roasters on staff. Each batch is expertly blended and roasted using time and temperature to guide the coffee through its stages, resulting in a consistently exceptional, deep-roasted experience.

LASTING FRESHNESS The 50-count cases are individually wrapped and flushed with nitrogen, ensuring a one-year expiration date and allowing customers to easily identify the specific roast they're enjoying.

OUR COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Giving back to the local community is a core part of the Independence Coffee Co. ethos. Through partnerships, the company supports initiatives like the Baylor Project, the Brenham High School Special Needs Program, and the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County.
